In an age when many soldiers found writing difficult, and the challenge of finding time and paper many soldiers sent cards to their family and friends - pre-printed postcards and Christmas cards.
Some official cards were pre-printed with a simple selection of ‘news’ other were sent by prisoners of war. Many soldiers had their photographs printed as postcards and others purchased locally printed and stylised cards. In France ‘silk postcards’ were popular.
